Slim Wallet For Men

Slim Wallet For Men

I bought this slim wallet off a random Reddit thread three months ago. $24.50 on Amazon, not some sketchy AliExpress listing, and I wasn’t expecting much. Honestly? I thought minimal wallets were kind of a bro-marketing scam. You know the type — guys on YouTube unboxing leather rectangles that cost $80 and saying stuff like “this changed my life bro.” Changed your life? Bro, it’s a wallet.

But here’s the thing. My old Fossil bifold was genuinely falling apart. The stitching on the right side had unraveled so bad I could see the cardboard layer underneath (yes, real leather has cardboard, don’t look it up, you’ll be sad). And it sat in my back pocket like a brick. Like, I’d sit down at my standing desk at work and feel this weird pressure on my tailbone. I ignored it for like a year.

My girlfriend noticed first. She was sitting next to me at brunch in late April — Eggs Benedict, that place on Smith Street with the big windows — and she poked my back pocket and goes “what is that, a phone?” I said no, it’s my wallet. She goes “babe, you’re gonna mess up your spine carrying that thing around.” I laughed it off.

Then my actual physical therapist mentioned it. Different context. I was in there for a knee issue (soccer injury, don’t ask), and while she was poking around my hip flexors she said “you sit on a wallet at work?” I said yeah. She just gave me this look. That kind of look where they don’t say anything but their eyes say “I can’t believe you’ve been doing this.”

Okay so I’m switching. That was around mid-May. I scrolled through a few options. Ridge was the obvious one but $95 for an aluminum wallet felt like paying for a brand name. Bellroy had some nice ones but again, $70. I just wanted something simple. Slim, leather, doesn’t scream “I saw it on a listicle.”

I landed on this one — a brand I’d actually never heard of before, called Coso. Yeah, Coso. Sounds like a small Italian town. It’s a bifold that opens vertically, holds like 6 cards, has a little pull tab for the ones in the middle. Bought the black one because the brown looked too… I don’t know, cowboy. $24.50 with Prime shipping.

First impression out of the box — it smelled like new car leather. That factory smell. My old one had that nice worn-in patina, this one felt like it had been stamped yesterday. The leather was stiff. I’m not gonna lie, I had a moment of “did I just waste $24.50?” Felt too clean.

But here’s what changed my mind. I put my cards in. Driver’s license, debit card, work badge, one credit card, my gym membership (Crunch, lifetime member, no I won’t cancel), and my insurance card. Six cards. Pulled the tab. It slid out smooth. Pushed them back in. The wallet felt… thin. Like, noticeably thin. I put it in my front pocket (yes front now, my PT would be proud) and stood up. No brick. No tailbone thing.

Wait, let me back up. I switched to front pocket carry right away. Some guys still do back pocket and just use a slimmer wallet. That’s fine. For me the front pocket felt more natural because I bike to work most days and the back pocket just bounces around and feels weird when I’m on the saddle. Front pocket, the wallet stays put. Feels like a credit card in a cardholder, basically.

Okay but does it actually hold cash? Here’s the catch. It does, but barely. The cash pocket is tight. If you fold your bills into fourths (the normal way) it bulges a little. The brand recommends folding bills in half and tucking them. I tried that. It works. But honestly? When’s the last time you paid for something with cash? I have like $20 in my wallet and it’s been there since June. Most stuff I tap. The occasional taco truck that doesn’t take cards, sure.

What I dropped from my old wallet — and this part was weirdly satisfying:

  • 3 old receipts from restaurants I went to in January. Crumpled. Why were these in my wallet?
  • A loyalty card for a barber shop I haven’t been to in 8 months
  • A random $5 bill I forgot about
  • That little plastic thing from a new shirt collar
  • Two expired coupons (one was for a smoothie place that closed)
  • A guitar pick? I don’t even play guitar

The point is, my old wallet had become a junk drawer. The slimmer one forces you to be selective. You can’t just shove stuff in there because there’s no room. After a week I realized I only really need like 4 cards and some cash. Everything else was just… noise.

Now let me be real about the downsides because nothing’s perfect.

The pull tab — it works, but the first two weeks I was constantly worried I’d snap it off. The leather where it’s stitched is thin and there’s this tiny tab you have to grab with your fingernail. If you have short nails or you’re rushing at the grocery checkout, it’s a little awkward. I got used to it. Took maybe 3 weeks before I stopped thinking about it. But the first few times it felt flimsy.

Another thing — it shows wear differently than a traditional bifold. The corners darken faster because there’s no fold there protecting them. After three months the edges have this dark brown almost black look that’s not unattractive, kind of weathered. But if you want your wallet to look pristine forever, this won’t. It’s gonna look lived-in.

And the RFID blocking thing? Honestly, I have no idea if it works. The brand says it blocks RFID scanning, so when some guy at the subway tries to skim your card, it won’t work. Sounds good in theory. I haven’t been skimmed before or after so I can’t tell you if it actually does anything. Take that as you will.

Alright so who is this for? My actual take after 90 days.

If you’re a guy who carries 12 cards, a passport, receipts, and a bunch of business cards — this is not it. You need a bigger wallet or you need to clean your life out. The Coso (and most slim wallets like this) just physically cannot hold that much.

If you sit at a desk all day and your wallet gives you back pain — try it. Seriously. My PT said something like “this is a low-cost fix for a daily ergonomic issue” and that’s stuck with me.

If you bike, run, or just don’t like a brick in your back pocket — this works.

If you’re a minimalist already and you just want something that disappears in your front pocket — this works.

If you need a money clip situation because you carry lots of cash — no. Different wallet for you.

I’ve recommended it to like four friends. Two bought it. One came back and said “yeah it’s fine” which is the guy response, but he’s still using it so. The other said he returned it because he missed having more storage. Fair.

Would I buy it again? Yeah. Probably. The thing is, it does exactly what it claims. Slim. Holds the essentials. Doesn’t fall apart after a month. $24.50 wasn’t a huge risk. If it broke tomorrow I’d just buy the same thing again, or maybe upgrade to the Bellroy if I felt fancy.

The price thing — I checked last week, July 2026. Still $24.50 on Amazon for the basic leather version. They have a “premium” full-grain one for $38. Eh. Probably the same thing with marketing. The $24.50 one is fine for most people.

One small thing I didn’t expect — compliments from cashiers. Like, more than once. The Kroger checkout guy last Tuesday was like “oh that’s a nice slim wallet, what brand is that?” I didn’t know what to say. “Uh, Coso.” Then he made a face like “never heard of it.” Yeah me neither buddy, but here we are.

Final thought? Three months in, the wallet is still holding shape. Cards still slide out. The pull tab hasn’t broken. My back doesn’t hurt when I sit down. My front pocket doesn’t bulge. For $24.50 and zero maintenance, that’s about all I want from a wallet.

If you’re on the fence, the worst case is you wasted $24 and you go back to your old wallet. Probably a better worst case than continuing to carry around a leather brick that’s slowly destroying your posture. Just saying.
