Aesthetic Bedside Lamp
Aesthetic Bedside Lamp
Why I bought this lamp at 11pm on a Tuesday
I was crying.
Not cute cry. Not movie cry. The kind where you’re lying in bed at 11pm staring at the ceiling and your phone screen is the only light in the room, and you’ve just finished an argument with your sister about something dumb that somehow turned into something huge. The overhead light was off. My apartment was dark. And the blue glow from my phone was making everything worse.
I remember thinking, “I need a lamp. A real one. Tonight.”
So I opened Amazon. Filter: warm light, under $40, ships next day. I scrolled for maybe 12 minutes. Clicked “buy now” on something called the “Aesthetic Bedside Lamp” by this brand YOLEO I’d never heard of before. $32.49 with Prime. The photo showed a small ceramic dome glowing soft amber on some influencer’s nightstand next to a stack of dog-eared novels.
I didn’t read a single review. I just hit purchase and went back to scrolling TikTok in the dark.
Stupid? Maybe. But sometimes you just need to fix one tiny thing in your life and pretend the rest will follow.
What actually showed up three days later
The box was tiny. Smaller than a shoebox. I almost thought they forgot something.
Inside: the lamp, a USB-C cable (no plug — annoying), and one of those fold-up instruction sheets that’s basically a single page of tiny diagrams. The lamp itself is this matte cream-colored ceramic dome, about the size of a grapefruit. There’s a little brass knob on the front that you twist to turn it on, twist more to dim it, twist past a certain point and it clicks off.
Weight-wise? Heavier than I expected. Maybe 1.5 pounds? Feels solid. Not cheap-plastic-hollow.
The base has a soft cork pad on the bottom so it doesn’t scratch your nightstand. Cute touch. I noticed it immediately.
I plugged it in. The cable is like 5 feet long, which was perfect because my outlet is across the room from my bed (old building problems). Twisted the knob. And—
Oh.
The light was warm. Like, actually warm. Not yellow-fluorescent-office warm. More like… a candle. But a candle that doesn’t burn out and doesn’t smell like smoke and doesn’t set off my smoke alarm.
It was exactly what I wanted at 11pm on a Tuesday.
How I’ve been using it for three months
Okay so here’s the thing. I bought this lamp on impulse because I was sad. But it’s become one of those objects I didn’t know I needed until it was just… there.
Every night now, around 9:30pm, I twist the knob. It’s the signal to my brain that work is over. Phone goes on the charger across the room (yes I had to retrain myself). Lamp goes on. Sometimes I read. Sometimes I just lie there. Sometimes my friend Mia comes over and we sit on my bed talking for hours with only the lamp on, and the room feels like a different apartment — softer, kinder, like the walls are made of cashmere.
My sister (the one I argued with) came to visit last month. She walked into my room at night and went, “Oh, this is nice.” Then: “Why don’t you just buy stuff like this for yourself instead of complaining you’re always in a bad mood?” Thanks, Jess.
But she wasn’t wrong. The lamp doesn’t fix my mood. It just… gives me a tiny ritual. A small thing I look forward to. Which sounds corny as hell but here we are.
Does the warm light actually do anything?
I’m not going to pretend I have science on this. But anecdotally? Yes.
I used to fall asleep with my phone screen basically pressed against my face. Blue light, doom-scrolling, two hours of “I’ll just watch one more reel.” Then I’d wake up feeling like I’d been hit by a truck.
Now I do this: lamp on at 9:30, phone on charger at 10, read for maybe 20 minutes (currently working through Sally Rooney’s “Beautiful World, Where Are You”), lamp off at 10:30, asleep by 11.
That’s not perfect. Some nights I’m still up at 1am. But the average has shifted. I feel less gross in the morning. My eyes don’t feel like sandpaper.
Whether that’s the warm light specifically, or just having a bedtime cue, or the placebo of spending $32 on a small ceramic dome — I don’t know. Probably the placebo, honestly. But who cares if it works?
The honest downsides
Okay. So it’s not perfect.
The biggest issue? The dimming is a little weird. There’s a “sweet spot” between too bright and too dim, and you have to hit it just right. Twist too far one way and it’s off. Twist too little and it’s blasting. About 1/8th of the knob’s travel is the range you actually want. After three months I can hit it blindfolded, but the first week was annoying. I’d accidentally crank it up and then have to squint while I readjusted.
Second thing — no plug included. USB-C cable is fine, I had a spare brick from my old iPad. But if you don’t have a wall adapter lying around, you’re stuck until you buy one. Which Amazon will gladly sell you for $14.99 because that’s how they get you.
Third thing, and this one’s minor — the cream color shows dust. Like, immediately. I wipe it down with a dry cloth every Sunday or it starts to look sad and gray. If you’re someone who hates cleaning, get the darker color (they also have forest green and terracotta).
Who this lamp is for (and who it’s NOT for)
Get this lamp if:
- You live in a small apartment and your overhead light feels like an interrogation lamp
- You read in bed (or pretend you do)
- You want a “wind down” cue that isn’t a screen
- You’re into the soft minimalist aesthetic and have a nightstand that isn’t covered in water bottles and old receipts
Don’t get it if:
- You need actual task lighting for like, doing makeup or reading tiny print — it’s too dim
- You want smart features (no app, no Alexa, no colors)
- You have a giant bed and need a lamp that lights up the whole room
- You hate the idea of twisting a knob (looking at you, tap-everything generation)
It’s also NOT a great gift for someone whose taste you don’t know. The aesthetic is specific. Cream ceramic, warm glow, no frills. Some people will think it’s beautiful. Other people will think it’s boring. You know your person.
Where to buy and what to expect to pay
I got mine on Amazon, $32.49 with Prime shipping (June 2026). The price has bounced around since — I’ve seen it as low as $27.99 on sale and as high as $39.99. I’d wait for a sale if you’re not in a 11pm-Tuesday-crying situation.
It’s also on the brand’s own website (yoleo.com, I think? Don’t quote me) for around the same price, but the shipping is slower and you might have to pay for it.
Two other brands I almost bought before this one:
- HAY’s “Bonnie” table lamp — gorgeous, like $120, too rich for my blood
- IKEA’s TÄRNABY — solid, cheap-ish, but the design felt more “dorm room” than “I’m a real adult”
I picked the YOLEO because it was in the middle. Not the cheapest. Not the most expensive. The one that looked like it belonged in a home I wanted to live in.
My final take after three months
Do I love this lamp? Yes.
Has it changed my life? No. I still have bad days. I still argue with my sister. I still scroll TikTok until 1am some nights.
But it’s a small, soft, warm thing I reach for every night. It costs less than dinner. It makes my apartment feel less like a place I sleep and more like a place I live.
That’s the whole review. $32.49. Cream ceramic. Warm light. Twist the knob.
Buy it or don’t. I’m not your mom.
